How to Send Letters and Photos to Someone in Prison in Turkey

Send letters and photos to a prison in Turkey by preparing them online with Mektup Yaz. We print and prepare your mailing in Turkey, then hand it to PTT, the Turkish postal service. Before ordering, confirm the recipient’s current prison and its mail acceptance requirements.

What recipient information do you need?

• The recipient’s full name.
• The prison’s full official name, including its number and type where applicable.
• The current postal address.
• Any additional recipient details required by that institution.

Do not assume a name and a general campus name are always enough. Separate institutions may share a campus. If your loved one has been transferred, confirm their new institution before sending anything.

Writing in English or another language

You can prepare your text in the language you use with your loved one. Check the text and print preview before completing the order. Being able to prepare a letter in a particular language does not guarantee that every prison will accept it without further review or language-related requirements.

Confirm the institution’s current rules where necessary. Personal correspondence may be reviewed by authorised prison staff; this service does not bypass that process.

How to prepare your mailing

1. Sign in or create an account.
2. Add the correct recipient and sender details.
3. Write your letter and choose from the paper and envelope options offered.
4. Add permitted photos or other items.
5. Review the print preview, page count, address and total before paying.

Your text becomes a physical letter. Order confirmation, preparation and postal acceptance are separate stages. You do not need to post the prepared letter internationally yourself when we prepare and mail it from Turkey.

Photos, postcards, books and printed documents

Check both the options offered in your order and the prison’s rules. The number of pages or photos the website allows you to add does not establish the institution’s acceptance limit. Check permitted sizes, content and quantities before ordering. Books and other extras are not automatically free.

Payment from outside Turkey

Check the payment options currently available for your order. A card issued abroad may require a different payment route. Do not assume every card or transfer method is supported. If you need an alternative, confirm the current method, payment recipient and total with support before paying.

Tracking and delivery

If you choose tracked postage, keep the barcode and check the postal record after acceptance. Delivery to the prison does not mean your loved one has received or read the letter. Internal review and distribution can take additional time. There is no single guaranteed delivery time for all orders.

Receiving a reply with a Virtual Mailbox

The Virtual Mailbox service, called Sanal Mektup Kutusu, provides a Turkish reply address under its service terms. Incoming letters can be scanned and made available digitally. Check setup, access and any viewing fees before giving the reply address to your loved one.

The mailbox service and your loved one’s outgoing postage are separate matters. Setting up a mailbox does not automatically pay the prison’s outgoing postal charges.
